GIS/CAD Technician





Office Gems is facilitating the recruitment of a GIS/CAD Technician for the East Port of Spain Development Company Limited.


The overall responsibilities of the GIS Technician are to assist with collation and mapping of spatial data and the delivery of CAD and drafting services to support spatial planning, project planning and execution.


The GIS Technician reports to the GIS Officer.


Main Duties

The GIS Technician:

  1. Collects, collates cleans and organizes geographic, demographic, and other data for use in data modeling and spatial applications, as directed.
  2. Converts physical maps and other external documents into digital data.
  3. Inputs spatial data and design specifications into related databases and software.
  4. Produces maps, CAD drawings, models, and blueprints in accordance with design specifications.
  5. Liaises with Technical personnel and Supervisor to review and modify, before final rendering.
  6. Assists with data capture at field surveys and site visits, or undertakes research as assigned.
  7. Represents the Unit on project teams and other Company initiatives, as required.
  8. Completes and submits job reports and provides inputs for other administrative or ad hoc reports.
  9. Makes recommendations to improve the quality and reliability of services and outputs.


Qualifications & Experience

  1. Recognized certification in Technical Drawing. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Design, or GIS would be an asset.
  2. CAD and GIS Certification.
  3. Two to three (2 to 3) years’ experience in a similar environment.

Knowledge and Skills

  1. Applied knowledge of CAD, GIS, and mapping tools e.g. QGIS and Carto and technologies.
  2. Proficiency with data programming language e.g. SQL, R or Python.
  3. Proficiency with front-end design language e.g. HTML, JavaScript, and other mapping languages.
  4. Knowledge of quantitative methods.
  5. Knowledge of spatial planning and urban design principles, techniques, and practices.
  6. Knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements for land use and management and infrastructural development and building codes.
  7. Understanding of the East Port of Spain community and culture.
  8. Excellent aptitude for critical thinking, problem-solving, and analysis.
  9. Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  10. Ability to use emotional intelligence to self-manage and influence positive outcomes.

Working Environment

Indoor and Outdoor conditions. Frequent traveling. Long periods of concentrated effort.


Hours:

Limited. Occasionally required to work outside of normal hours.
